The Grouchy Gamer

Yeah, I'm cranky. That's kinda the point...

Honest Blogmeme

ScrappyI’ve been tagged with a meme.  I’ve avoided participating in meme-taggin exercises up until now because I didn’t want to go down that road.  Wilhelm2451 over at The Ancient Gaming Noob has challenged me to wrest me from by blog-slumber on this one though.  So here it is.  Some honest scrap for you all.

Let’s start with the premise of the meme.
According to TAGN, here is the dealio;

The Rules for this meme are apparently:

1. When accepting this auspicious award, you must write a post bragging about it, including the name of the misguided soul who thinks you deserve such acclaim, and link back to the said person so everyone knows she/he is real.
2. Choose a minimum of seven (7) blogs that you find brilliant in content or design. Or improvise by including bloggers who have no idea who you are because you don’t have seven friends. Show the names and links of the seven random victims and leave a harassing comment informing them that they were prized with Honest Weblog. Well, Well, there’s no prize, but they can keep the nifty icon.
3. List at least ten (10) honest things about yourself. Then pass it on!

Like Wilhelm, I’m not prone to brag. At least not on cue.  So here it is.  Woo, famous people have read this blog.  Actually, that’s easy to make happen if you figure out what words are in their google alerts.  But I’m claiming that one anyway.  The person who also thinks I rock (besides Tarkheena, depending on the day) is evidently Wilhelm at

Number one is complete.

Now, seven Blogs.

I’m going to tag the folks that I feel closest to in a blog sense.

So here goes;

1. Stylish Corpse.  /Poke Ysharros
2. Kill Ten Rats.  I’m gonna go ahead and call out Ethic on this one.
3. Wall of Text.  Still miss playing MMO’s with Brent.
4. Nerfbat. Because it will annoy the shit out of Shwayder.
5. Anyway Games. Because it’s one of the most thoughtful and less self-promoting of us.
6. Common Sense Gamer.  /wave Darren.  You guys coming to AGDC again this year?  Beer, er call, me.
7. The Ramblings of JoBildo.  For the same reason Wilhelm tagged me.

There, that’s #2.

Here is number 3;

10 Honest things about me…

See if you can figure these out.  Should be pretty easy, especially once you get the theme.  Extra points if you know the year as well.  Be honest if you google.

1. I never plotted a murder with someone I don’t know on a conveyance.
2. I’ve never been mistaken for a spy and chased across the country.
3. I don’t get particularly dizzy when I’m up high.
4. I’m not a tennis pro trying to kill my wife by proxy.
5. I’ve never had a party with a dead friend in the room.
6. I’ve never run a hotel, along with my mother.
7. I’ve never been to Morrocco with Doris Day.
8. I’ve never spied on Nazis in South America.
9. I do have a healthy fear of attack by flying feathered creatures.
10. I’ve never watched a neighbor commit a heinous crime from my apartment.

There. It’s done.  Or will be as soon as I get home (where all the sites aren’t filtered like here at work) and I can post my taunt on your sites.

Look Closely

  1. Ah, cool, you found another honest scrap picture!

    Hrmm, Hitchcock films. I won’t list them out though. Knowing them all off-hand would again betray my age. Let some young person struggle with it on their own!

  2. Ah, Wilhelm beat me to it. Hitchcock movies, got the theme on the second one – if Wilhelm won’t list all the movies to betray his age – Yikes, then I’m an ancient one. 😉

  3. I’m impressed by just how little Hitchcock I know.
    Vertigo, Psycho, The Birds and Rear Window I’m pretty sure of. I think The Man Who Knew Too Much is in there, but I’m not entirely sure it’s Hitchcock.

    As to years, well I don’t remember the release dates of the movies still in theaters, let alone from Hitchcock’s days.

  4. Given the blog’s sub-title, do you really think there are many of us readers who wouldn’t get the theme pretty quickly? I had it by one (though admittedly, Strangers on a Train is one of my fave Hitchcock movies). Also, I can never resist a quiz.

    1. Strangers on a Train
    2. North by Northwest
    3. Vertigo
    4. …Suspicion?
    5. {Argh! I’m stumped!}
    6. Psycho
    7. The Man Who Knew Too Much (another classic)
    8. Notorious
    9. The Birds
    10. Rear window

    And what, no Rebecca? Mr and Mrs Smith? I’d say what, no Marnie, but I didn’t like that one anyway. 😛

    Didn’t Google any of them or I’d have #5 too, but it’s not even ringing faint bells today.

  5. Anyone want to take a shot at #4 and #5? You did pretty darn good Ysh, 80% on that quiz is a definite B+!

  6. #4 came back to me in a /smack_forehead moment. I still don’t have 5 and I refuse to Google it, dammit!

  7. I believe one is “Dial M for Murder”, and the other is “Rope”

  8. One that is not on the list but should have been is “Frenzy”. But only if you like Ties.

  9. Oh and Rear Window is my favorite Hitchcock movie.

  10. OK, looks like the list has run it’s course…

    Here are the years to round it out;

    1. Strangers on a Train (1951)
    2. North by Northwest (1959)
    3. Vertigo (1958)
    4. Dial M for Murder (1954)
    5. Rope (1948)
    6. Psycho (1960)
    7. The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956)
    8. Notorious (1946)
    9. The Birds (1962)
    10. Rear window (1954)

    I’ve always loved Rope and Rear Window in particular. Rope because of the unique way it was shot (only 2 cuts in the entire film, and in real-time) and Rear Window because it was just so damn good.

    All of these are great films though. Grats to Ysharros and Oakstout for getting all the names. Thanks for playing!
