The Grouchy Gamer

Yeah, I'm cranky. That's kinda the point...

I’m baaaack

Hey everyone, I’ve missed talking to you over the last few months as I worked through some things and have been trying to get some things in order.  I have missed pontificating and keeping track of everything that has been going on in the industry.

So I’m back.  Be careful what you ask for…

If any of you are wondering what’s been up with me, I can tell you.  I know this isn’t a personal blog, but here’s what is what.  In October, I had a fall.  I told some of the CoW’s about it, and I thought the only injury I had was a busted-up elbow.  A few stitches and I’m good to go, right?  Well it looks like I also damaged or bruised something else during that fall (I had my hands full and fell too fast to break my fall, so I had my stomach and elbow on the ground first.)  Since that day, I have been chronically tired and thirsty.  Tarkheena was finally able to get me to the doctor, and it turns out that I’m diabetic.  I didn’t know that trauma could trigger diabetes but my doctor tells that it can.  So I’m on medication trying to get my blood sugar under control.

About 2 weeks ago, my employer decided that of the 42 employees of that company, they could get by without 17 of them.  All of sales, training, and QA went.  So I was out.  I’ve been looking for something new and arranging some consulting jobs as I can to keep things going.

It’s been a tough few months for me and Tark, but we’re going to be OK.

And in the coming days and weeks, look for some pearls of wisdom or whatever else you want to call the crap I write here.  It’s time, I hope you all enjoy what I come up with.

  1. Welcome back! Sorry to hear about your trials and tribulations. Hope and pray that things improve for you in the coming days.

  2. Its good to hear from you, and I’m sorry you are having to deal with this adversity right now. You and Tark are quality people and I know you’ll get through it just fine. Either one of those events is quite an ordeal to manage, let alone both. I’ll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

I’ll see you two in some virtual world sooner or later 🙂

  3. Bout time!

Welcome back, man. Tough couple months, but you made it on through to the other side.

  4. Hang in there G.

And, as JB said — about damn time! 😀 But I’ve told you that in game already.

  5. Glad to see you back Genda!

  6. Glad to see you back blogging, and really, really sorry to hear about the health issues and job loss.

Good that you have some consulting gigs to help bridge the gap between unemployment and solvency, though!

  7. I hope you land on your feet (figuratively for now, literally going forward) after what sounds like a rough go-around for the last month.

  8. Sorry to hear about your troubles Genda, it’s a couple of blows to be sure. I’m a type 2 diabetic myself, and while it was hard at first, I came through, and I’m sure you’ll get there too.

And… it’s great to see you back.

  9. Glad to see you coming back around, Genda.
Sorry to hear that things have been dishing out pretty rough for you. Hopefully a positive turn-around won’t be too far behind.

  10. Glad to hear you’ve at least found out what the problem was and having it taken care of!

The job situation is rough, but it sounds like you’ve got a contingency. I’ve been on medical leave myself for 8 months now but I’m hoping things are just about over so I can get back to work. (Then hopefully get a NEW job LOL)

  11. I know being a diabetic is a bummer, I’ve been one since I was 16, but you should be fine with good meds, diet and exercise. I know you’ll get back on your feet soon with a better and more interesting job, I mean, your Genda for heaven sakes. lol

Good to see you back blogging. We’ve missed you!

  12. Hey guys,

Thansk for the kind words. I want to remind you all that I’m fine, however. There’s no need for the sorry’s and such, although I appreciate the sentiment.

I’m not going to let this slow me down. On the contrary, it was a much-needed kick in the ass to do something about my nutrition and exercise deficit.

    Love you guys much though.

  13. Good to see you’re bouncing back, Genda. Tough hand to play there, but I’m glad to see you’re in the fighting spirit. Can’t wait to read what you have to throw at us. Keep us posted on how you’re doing from time to time, too. Hang in there!

  14. Welcome back! Sorry it’s late 😛
