There is a beta for WAR, and I am in that beta.
That’s all the detail that my NDA allows me to disclose. If you are wondering why I haven’t been writing much lately other than the fact that I’ve had a busy home life, it’s because I can’t write about what interests me most at the moment. It’s actually all I’m playing right now. I’ve even gotten off of TF2, save times when they are doing something that keeps me from logging in.
I’ve now gone past the “anticipating a new game” stage to the “excited about the new game stage.
I’m not the only one. The blogs are alive with stories about the game and what people think it will be. Tobold is expecting to get conned again by a developer that ships a game with only low-level content. Many bloggers are risking their beta status with small leaks defending Mythic and the game from some claims. NDA is probably coming off in a few days, per Mark Jacobs. Our bloggers guild, casualtiesguild.com, has shown much more interest than I had anticipated. The site has had over 500 posts in the last day and a half. Up from zero, because that site has only been up for 36 hours or so.
So be forewarned that my point of view is going to be skewed in the coming weeks, and you can probably expect to hear a lot from me about WAR. A LOT of other blogs will be writing about WAR as well. Some of them willprobably be game journals with information about their experiences. Some will be about other aspects of the game. I’m going to try to keep the focus here as I have with others in the past. In other words, I’ll try to keep a high-level, general overall perspective on it. I’ll probably do some analysis of it at a business level. But expect it to occupy my thoughts.
I haven’t really allowed myself to get too excited about anything since the whole Vanguard thing threw up on my shoes. If you don’t know, I operate a Vanguard fansite, and that whole thing left a sour taste in my mouth. I was also the one who broke the story about Brad McQuaid not being there for his people in crunch time. (Google Brad McQuaid, the story is the second one after his wikipedia entry.) It’s still the most-read story on my blog(s). (that link is to my former host on blogger, I self-host the blog now.) This game has been on my radar since I was lucky enough to get (sneak) in to a presentation about it at E3 2006. Now it’s coming to fruition.
What has me so excited? I can’t say (see paragraph #1). I think a lot of people are going to be excited, and for good reason. What are the reasons?
Watch this space, the guild site, pre-order a copy, and find out. For now;
